Up for sale is a
Vntg Brown Suede Yakama Indian Nation  Beaded Long Fringe Vest Men’s Small or a Women’s medium to large. It weighs 2 lbs., from armpit to armp it is 17 1/2″, total front length counting the fringe length is 33″, front fringe is 20 1/4″ long. The fringe in the back is 2″ shorter. The black wool oval beaded applique on the back is 7 1/2″ long by 5 3/8″ tall. I asked Yakama friends if they couls identify this beadwork and this is what they said: “They agreed the vest is from a West Coast tribe and most likely either, Wasco, or Warm Springs or  Yakama. These sisters lived along the Columbia Gorge when they were girls. They recall seeing a similar vest worn by a fisherman at Celilo Falls before the Dalles Dam dammed up Celilo Falls. So the vest is likely from the early 50’s, or at least the style dates to then. The top panels on the front sides of the vest have sequined orange hearts sewn onto an appliqued suede hearts with turquoise and redish/orange bordering the heart. Below the hearts are bands of Turquoise, cobalt, orange & yellow beads. And below this beaded band on both sides are a lighter colored leather pockets with more of the same turquoise, cobalt, orange & yellow beads. Decorated all of the vest’s edges on the front and back are tranparent gold cylinder/tube beads. On the black wool oval applique orange/red, lavender, bright red, turquoise and cobalt beads were used. The inside vest is vented with the letter “S” on the back side of the front pockets.
– This suede leather Native American beaded vest a with long fringe is in very good, well cared for and lightly used condition. One fringe on the right front side is 9″ shorter than the rest. 9 fringes on the right front have one or two fold creases on the the fringes from being improperty folded.
